Abstract: La vicenda di questo libro può apparire lieta all'inizio, con i ragazzi Baudelaire in compagnia di alcuni rettili molto interessanti e di uno zio svampito, ma non lasciatevi ingannare. Se avete sentito parlare degli sfortunati ragazzi Baudelaire, sapete già che anche eventi gradevoli possono condurre sulla via della sventura. Infatti, nelle pagine seguenti i ragazzi si imbattono in un incidente d'auto, un tanfo acre e pesante, un serpente letale, un lungo coltello, una grande lampada a stelo in ottone e la ricomparsa di una persona che speravano di non rivedere mai più.
