La Légende des mondes

Abstract: Un lion plonge dans l’effroi un paisible village des rives du fleuve Chari. Dans une injonction qui laisse perplexes les habitants, grand-mère Harira, la devineresse et l’autorité du lieu, porte son dévolu sur un cavalier solitaire, l’étrange Faris, pour aller affronter l’animal. Sa couardise le sauve, malgré lui, de maintes embûches et le voilà revenu triomphant au village, chevauchant le fauve épuisé au point d’en mourir. L’histoire, trilingue (français, anglais et arabe, avec de petits problèmes de lisibilité pour cette dernière langue, comme toujours, dus au sens de lecture inversé), est menée tambour battant avec une tension narrative efficace qui accentue la cocasserie et la saveur de cet improbable affrontement. Ou comment la peur peut être le moteur de l’héroïsme ! Le trait caricatural de l’illustration en noir et blanc fait mouche et sert à propos ce conte originaire du Soudan (Darfour), bien complété par une page d’information sur les populations (dont les Bilala), fort différentes dans leur origine, que l’on retrouve de part et d’autre de la frontière soudano-tchadienne et dont l’auteur est originaire. Un vrai plaisir de lecture (adaptée à de bons débutants), permettant de mieux connaître une région dont on connaît assez peu le patrimoine oral.
